FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The compassion, hope, and healing that Trustbridge Hospice provides will take flight during the inaugural Uptown 5K on the Runway, set for Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE).
Trustbridge Hospice Foundation and FXE have partnered to host a 5K run/walk event, and for the first time in FXE’s history, people, not planes, will take off from the runway– no boarding pass, luggage, or fee required.
Runners and walkers of all ages can register for the Uptown 5K event and create team fundraising pages at www.tbfdn.org/uptown5Kftl or by texting UPTOWN to 71777.
“This event is the first of its kind in the history of our Foundation, and we are excited to see ‘compassion take flight’ as runners and walkers take to the runway and participate in this fun family event, which also benefits the patients and families served by Trustbridge hospice in our community,” said Greg Leach, President of Trustbridge Hospice Foundation. “We are also incredibly grateful for the support of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and our Uptown 5K on the Runway sponsors. We look forward to this event ‘taking off’ and being a great experience for all.”
After taking in the sights and sounds on the runway, participants will disembark into the Uptown 5K Urban Village for post-race fun and festivities. The Village will feature live entertainment, a kids’ zone, food stations, team tent celebrations, and much more.
“Providing neighbors and visitors with an opportunity to step foot on FXE’s runway for the very first time during the inaugural Uptown 5K strengthens Fort Lauderdale’s commitment to supporting programs and activities that improve health and wellness, promote fitness, and enhance quality of life,” said Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Heather Moraitis. “We’re thrilled to partner with Trustbridge for this historic event, and look forward to a fun run in the sun.”
“As one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country, FXE continuously seeks opportunities that attract business to the area and help our tenants prosper. We also understand that the needs of the community extend beyond our runway, which is why seeking out community partners and supporting events at the airport that may spark an interest in aviation careers or bring people together is so important to us,” said Rufus James, Airport Manager.
All proceeds from the Uptown 5K will benefit the Trustbridge Hospice Foundation to help fund programs and services Trustbridge offers, including comfort care, charitable care, music therapy, pet therapy, adult and children’s bereavement services, and children’s camps.
